Where do the title, description, and outline ideas come from in Topic?

Some of Topic's powerful features include the title, description, and outline generators on the Content Research tab:

These generators help brainstorm ideas for titles, descriptions, and headings for your post. But where does this content come from?

To generate these ideas, we use an AI text-generation system called GPT-3, which is produced by a company called OpenAI

GPT-3 is unique because it's the largest AI language model ever produced, which allows it to generate text that is almost indistinguishable from that written by a human. In addition, it can complete a variety of diverse tasks without needing expensive training.

Do I need to worry about plagiarism when using Topic?

In short, there is a very small statistical possibility that these generators would suggest content that is identical to another article, so it's always good to compare what is generated against the top results.

For a more detailed answer, it's useful to understand how GPT-3 works.

GPT-3 is a neural-network-powered language model. A language model predicts the likelihood of a sentence existing in the world. For example, a language model can label the sentence “I rode my bicycle to work” as more probable than the sentence “I rode my banana to work”. This is true for sentences as well as phrases and, more generally, any sequence of characters.

In order to learn what phrases are more or less probable, GPT-3 was trained on 2–3 billion web pages (from the Common Crawl dataset). Words or phrases were randomly removed from the text and the model was trained to fill them in using surrounding words as context. Through this simple training, a powerful and generalizable model was produced.

So when we use this system to generate title or description ideas, it's generating the text word-by-word from probabilities calculated from billions of web pages, never copying content directly from any one source.

More generally, you always want to be sure the content you publish is original. Although Topic allows you to get inspiration and ideas from the other top-ranking articles, you should always use your own knowledge and experience to put your unique spin on any subject you write about.
