Why is my video metadata showing up twice in Google Search Console?

If you see your video metadata being listed twice per post in your Google Search Console account, it usually means a recipe (or similar) plugin is duplicating the video metadata that’s already included in your AdThrive video.

The AdThrive Ads plugin (starting with version 1.0.36) gives you the option to disable video metadata globally across your site or on a post-by-post-basis.

To disable video metadata on a single post:

In your post editor, scroll down to the AdThrive Ads plugin settings and check the box next to “Disable adding metadata to video player on this post.”

Caution: This feature should only be used when you are certain that your recipe plugin is sending duplicate video metadata. Otherwise, leave the checkbox unchecked. If you disable your video metadata, and it is not being sent by another service, no structured data will be included with your video and this could hurt your SEO efforts. If you have ANY questions about this setting, please contact us first so we can advise you.

To disable video metadata on all posts:

On your AdThrive Ads plugin settings page, check the box next to “Disable adding metadata to video players.”

Caution: Only use the global option to disable video metadata across your site if you ONLY load videos through recipe card plugins that are sending duplicate data to Google. Otherwise, this will cause your non-recipe videos to lose their structured data. If you have ANY questions about this setting, please contact us first so we can advise you.

Do I have to do anything?

No. Since these duplicate data entries are not generating errors within Google’s tools, we believe that Google will implement a fix eventually. We have not seen any indication that these duplicate entries have any detrimental effect, but we hope that this option provides peace of mind for the time being. Please reach out with ANY questions — we’re happy to help!
