Gated Print

Gated Print helps you increase your ad earnings through identified traffic, with the potential added benefit of growing your subscriber list. With Gated Print, readers will be asked to enter their email address before they can access your site’s printable recipe pages. This is an easy way to increase your identified traffic, which advertisers pay more for when it comes to running ads on your site. Plus, you can connect your email service provider (ESP), to your Raptive dashboard to automatically add these email addresses directly to your subscriber list.

How it works

This feature works with the following recipe plugins:

  • WP Recipe Maker
  • Tasty
  • WP Delicious
  • Create

When a reader clicks to print a recipe or tutorial, they’ll see a simple prompt asking for their email. Once they enter it, they’ll get access to the print page. If they've already entered their email on your site previously, they won’t be asked again.

These email addresses will be securely hashed and added to Raptive’s identity algorithms to provide more audience data to bidding advertisers.

You’ll also have the option of connecting your email service provider (ESP) to automatically add these emails to your subscriber list. You can choose to include a newsletter sign-up checkbox in the prompt.

  • You can choose to either pre-check this box or have it unchecked.
  • If the box is pre-checked or if a reader checks the box, we’ll send the email address to your ESP so you can grow your list without extra steps.
  • Readers don’t have to sign up for your newsletter to access the print page, it’s always optional.
    • If the email address isn’t sent to your ESP, it’s still securely hashed and added to Raptive’s identity algorithm.

Connect your ESP (Optional)

To start, Gated Print supports a direct integration with Kit and Mailchimp. The next ESP we will integrate is Flodesk; we’ll continue adding more ESPs based on your feedback.

  • You don’t have to connect an ESP to use Gated Print. It’s completely optional and is only required for newsletter/subscriber-related benefits. You can still benefit from Raptive’s identified traffic perks without connecting an ESP.

You can connect your ESP in the Email section of your Ad Preferences page in the creator dashboard:

  1. Click Add connection

  2. Select your ESP

  3. Add your API key

  4. Choose which list or campaign to send emails to

Set up Gated Print

  1. In the Email section of Ad Preferences, check the box next to Gated Print to turn the feature on.
    • Some sites may require additional setup support from our team

  1. If you’d like to add a newsletter prompt to Gated Print, click the gear icon to open your configuration options:

    • Prompt readers to sign up for your newsletter: Adds a checkbox to the Gated Print prompt

    • Opt-in by default: Automatically checks the newsletter sign-up box (readers can uncheck it)

From here, Gated Print will collect emails from your print pages and send opted-in signups straight to your ESP.

Why this matters

We’re investing in tools that help you earn more and engage with your audience directly. This version of Gated Print is the first step toward a bigger suite of related features. Got feedback or want to request support for another ESP? Let us know!
