Growing Your Raptive Community: Instagram

Instagram gives you lots of opportunities to promote your Community, from reaching new people through Reels to inviting your most engaged followers through Stories.

Each format plays a different role.

Reels can introduce the idea of your Community to a wider audience. Feed posts can demonstrate its value. Stories and Broadcast Channels can turn existing relationships into meaningful participation.

1. BIO LINK: MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY EASY TO FIND

Your Instagram bio is one of the first places an interested follower will look when they want to take the next step with you.

Make sure your Community is easy to find through your profile links, whether you link to it directly or include it in your existing link-in-bio page.

MAKE YOUR BIO LINK WORK HARDER

  • Give your Community a clear, recognizable name.
  • Use a descriptive link title such as "Join Our Recipe Community" instead of "Community."
  • If you use a link-in-bio page, position your Community prominently rather than burying it beneath a long list of links.
  • Connect your bio language to the actual experience waiting inside.

EXAMPLE

Instead of:

"Join my community ↓"

Try:

"Love easy weeknight dinners? Come swap ideas with us ↓"

The goal is to help someone understand why they'd want to click, not simply tell them that the Community exists.

PRO TIP: If you're regularly directing people to your profile from Reels or feed posts, make sure your Community link is immediately easy to recognize. Every additional step introduces an opportunity for someone to lose interest.

2. REELS: TURN VIEWERS INTO PARTICIPANTS

Reels are particularly useful for introducing your content to people who may not already follow you.

Start with the topic, question, or experience that made someone interested in your video in the first place. Then show how they can become part of the conversation.

USE REELS TO PROMOTE:

  • Questions you're answering in the Community
  • Debates sparked by your recent content
  • Member recommendations or experiences
  • Community polls that need more votes
  • Additional resources related to popular videos
  • Decisions your audience can help make

EXAMPLE: RECIPE CREATOR

HOOK"Apparently, we all have VERY different opinions about what belongs in mac and cheese."
SHOWClips of different ingredients alongside a screenshot of the Community discussion.
INVITE"We're settling this in the Community, and I need to know which side you're on."
CTA"Comment MAC and I'll send you the link."

If you use a comment-to-DM tool, make sure your automation is set up and tested before publishing. Otherwise, direct viewers to the Community link in your profile.

MAKE YOUR REELS MORE EFFECTIVE

  • Keep the opening focused on the viewer's interests, not an announcement.
  • Show a real Community experience that demonstrates what your followers can expect.
  • Include the CTA on screen and in your spoken narration when possible.
  • Use your usual style, humor, editing, and personality.
  • Choose one specific action viewers can take.

You don't have to create an entirely separate Reel just to promote your Community. Sometimes a relevant invitation at the end of an existing video is enough.

3. FEED POSTS: MAKE THE VALUE VISIBLE

Feed posts give you more room to explain why your Community is worth joining.

Carousels are particularly useful when you want to introduce an idea, provide context, show proof, and invite followers to continue the conversation.

TRY THESE APPROACHES:

1. THE COMMUNITY INTRODUCTION CAROUSEL

Use a short carousel to explain who your Community is for and what members can do.

Slide 1"If you love [TOPIC], I made something for you."
Slide 2Introduce the challenge, interest, or conversation your audience shares.
Slide 3Explain what your Community makes possible.
Slide 4Show a real discussion, resource, or activity.
Slide 5Invite followers to join through your bio link.

2. THE COMMUNITY RECAP

Share an interesting discussion, a member recommendation, or a surprising response.

Caption example:

"You all had so many good suggestions for organizing small kitchens that I couldn't fit them into one post.

We're collecting everyone's favorite space-saving tricks in the Community, and there are already some really creative ideas.

Come share yours through the link in my bio."

3. THE COMMUNITY-INSPIRED POST

Turn a question or discussion from your Community into useful public content. Give followers a genuinely valuable takeaway, then invite them to contribute their own experience.

PRO TIP: Consider pinning an introductory Community post to your Instagram profile. This creates an evergreen invitation for new profile visitors without requiring you to keep making launch announcements.

4. STORIES: GIVE YOUR MOST ENGAGED FOLLOWERS A REASON TO JOIN

Instagram Stories are one of the most natural places to promote your Community because they primarily help you connect with people who already know you and your content.

These followers may need less explanation and more of a compelling reason to participate.

IDEAS FOR REGULAR STORY INVITATIONS

  • Reshare an interesting Community discussion with a link sticker.
  • Ask a question on Stories, then invite followers into the Community for a deeper discussion.
  • Show a screenshot of a member's recommendation.
  • Share a resource that's available in the Community.
  • Invite followers to help decide what you'll create next.

EXAMPLE

"Okay, I need my fellow garden people for this one 🌱

We're sharing our biggest gardening mistakes in the Community and some of these are TOO relatable.

Come add yours ↓"

[LINK STICKER]

PRO TIP: Story views often decline from one frame to the next, so once you know what you’re inviting followers into, choose the shortest sequence that gets the job done. Sometimes that means one strong Story. Other times, a short three-Story sequence gives followers enough context and proof to make joining feel worthwhile.

CREATE A COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT

Save useful Community Stories to a dedicated Instagram Highlight so people can discover the Community after the original Story expires.

Include a short introduction, examples of what happens inside, and a clear invitation to join.

Add new stories to the Highlight as new conversations and experiences become available.

5. BROADCAST CHANNELS: TURN UPDATES INTO INVITATIONS

If you have access to an Instagram Broadcast Channel, it can be another useful place to invite your most interested followers into your Community.

Think of your Broadcast Channel as a place for quick updates and reminders, and your Raptive Community as the place for richer, ongoing conversations between members.

TRY SHARING:

  • A new Community discussion you're excited about
  • A quick preview of a resource
  • A member question you'd love more people to answer
  • A reminder about a Community activity or event
  • Results from a poll, with an invitation to continue the conversation

EXAMPLE

"I need your help with something πŸ‘€

I'm planning next month's content, and I've narrowed it down to three ideas.

I just opened a discussion in the Community so you can help me choose.

Come tell me what you'd actually want to see β†’ [LINK]"

PRO TIP: Avoid using your Broadcast Channel only to send Community links. Continue sharing the updates and personal moments people joined the channel for, while weaving in invitations when there's a meaningful reason to visit.
