How to set up an ad-free membership

There are many plugins and platforms you can use to create a membership experience on your site. Raptive does not require or recommend one specific membership plugin.

The most important requirement is that your membership setup must be able to add a custom body class to the page when an ad-free member is logged in.

This body class can be whatever you’d like, but it should meet these criteria:

• It appears only for logged-in members who should have an ad-free experience.
• It does not appear for readers who should continue seeing ads.

Once your membership body class is configured, contact Raptive Support and share the exact body class you created. Our team can then update your ad layout so ads do not load when that class is present.

Can I offer multiple membership levels with different ad experiences?

Absolutely. If each membership level has its own unique body class, we can configure different ad experiences for each level.

For example, some creators offer both:

• An ad-lite membership with fewer ads
• An ad-free membership with no ads

Once you’ve decided how each membership level should work, reach out to Raptive Support with the body class for each level and the ad experience you’d like associated with it.

What membership plugin should I use?

Raptive does not have a specific membership plugin or platform we recommend. You’re welcome to choose the option that works best for your site and your business.

The only requirement is that the plugin or platform must allow you to add custom body classes based on a reader’s membership level. This lets Raptive accurately configure your ad layout so the right ad experience loads for the right readers.

How will this affect my earnings?

When ads are turned off for logged-in paid members, those members' sessions will not generate ad impressions or ad revenue. Your non-member traffic will continue to see ads as usual and can continue earning from Raptive ads.

Because ad-free members are no longer monetized through ads, you’ll want to make sure your membership pricing accounts for the ad revenue you may no longer earn from those readers. The overall impact will depend on how much of your traffic comes from paid members and how often they visit your site.
