Interstitial Ad FAQs

What are interstitial ads?

Interstitial ads are full-page ads that will serve when a site visitor navigates from one page to another page. Now, these super-high-earning ads only show when someone is clicking off your site or has previously switched or minimized the browser tab or phone screen.

What does it look like?

Here’s an example of the mobile interstitial ad experience:

And here is the desktop interstitial ad experience:

How do I get this added to my site?

Opt into mobile and/or desktop interstitial ads via the Ad Preferences page in your dashboard. Look under Ad Controls, and turn on the toggles.

How much will it earn?

Interstitial ads have a lot of earning potential. Readers must close the ad before they get to the next page, making them highly-viewable and valuable to advertisers, which converts to high earnings for you.

We’ve seen interstitial ads pay double-digit CPMs and increase RPM by up to 2% (and sometimes much more) for publishers who opt in. Since interstitial ads display on subsequent pageviews, more pageviews per session increases your earning potential from these ads.

Does this ad type align with the Coalition of Better Ads (CBA)?

Yep — all Raptive ads meet CBA’s guidelines.

This type of ad experience might not suit every publisher but can give a big boost to earnings. To meet Google’s Better Ads standards, these ads must load quickly, have a clear exit option, and can only be shown to a reader once per hour.
